Lent at Celebration Church

Prepare for Easter with honest reflection, deeper worship, and a steady hope rooted in the gospel of Jesus Christ.

A Message from Pastor Mike:

The to-do list nags—unfinished tasks tapping me on the shoulder before my feet even hit the floor. The voices requesting my time get louder—emails, texts, meetings, needs, good opportunities, urgent interruptions. The demands of the day stare me down— responsibilities lined up like an unblinking audience, waiting for me to perform. So much to do.

And yet, God calls me to pull away, to come to a quiet place and pray.

If I’m honest, my first response usually isn’t, “Yes, Lord.” It’s, “I don’t have time.” I must get things done.

Lent is that season that comes around every year that reminds me: if my inner life is not cared for, my outer life will never show the person God desires me to be—or the person I would like to be.

I love the season of Lent. These weeks provide me with a renewed focus to follow the practices of Jesus. Here is this man whose days were full of demanding requests. In addition, he faced challenges and opposition from those who controlled the religious institution. Even though he knew there was more for him to do in one day than the hours would allow, he moved intentionally—very early, while it was still dark—to a quiet place to pray and to devote time alone with his heavenly Father.

I invite you this Lent to find that quiet place to begin your day. Here is the routine I will follow this Lent:

  • Read or recite Psalm 100 (This psalm I asked you to memorize in my first sermon of this year.)

  • Close my eyes for one to two minutes, asking God to focus my thoughts

  • From the Lent Devotion Guide I will read the Bible passage and devotion for the day.

  • Pause to reflect on what truth(s) God may be teaching me from these readings.

  • Pray–my prayer will include confession, thanksgiving, and asking God for guidance for the day. I will also pray for those in our church family who have requested prayer and are facing challenging situations.

This Lent, let us together as a church family step aside from the daily noise and set a time and place to hear from God
